You like to eat at precisely 7 a.m., 12 noon, and 5 p.m. Today I said, "Okay, Aunt Florence, I'm coming right now with your lunch." I sounded just like my mother, who used to tell me the same thing when I demanded dinner on time.
I suddenly realized that the only things I know about Aunt Florence are:
1) she was somehow related to my mother,
2) the U.S. Naval Observatory used her hunger cues to set their official clocks, and
3) she left her entire estate to a tribe of Native Americans.
So I asked your Mamo about her and got some more scoop! Turns out Aunt Florence was my Mamo's Aunt (your Mamo's Mother's Aunt). She lived in northern Florida and never married, but she did have a long-standing feud with my Mamo's mother, who was her sister. I suspect this may be why she gave her money to the Indians. Seems like a good way to have the last word, anyway. She worked with children as her career, so hopefully she wasn't too wicked! Your Mamo says Aunt Florence was always very kind to her, and they often spent holidays together.
So there you have it, the first of the ancestor posts. More to come later, to be sure.
