Etiquette

There are three appropriate actions to take when you encounter a pregnant woman.
  1. Say nothing. You never know for sure.
  2. Smile and offer your congratulations/best wishes.
  3. Exclaim, "You look fantastic!"
The following comments (all of which have been pointed at me in recent weeks) are simply not acceptable:
  • "What?! You're not due until next month? But you're so big!!"
  • "Oh, you're having another boy? I'm sorry."
  • "Just watch out when you deliver. You'll never guess what happened to me... {insert horror story here}"
  • "Don't worry, that extra weight will come right off."
  • "You look like you're about to pop!"
  • Parenting advice of any kind.

  1. How 'bout when they TOUCH your belly? Not speaking from experience (although if I keep "growing" this way, your #1 above might apply, heh) but I've heard from friends that being preggers apparently makes it okay for strangers to touch you. Good grief.

Anyway, I seriously hope you don't pop, that sounds messy. ;)

  2. OMG. I must give off unfriendly vibes because nobody has actually tried the legendary stranger belly rub on me. Thank heaven. Ewwww.
